Installation Guide – Flint Silver 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and required waterproofing/drainage before installation.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints with room sightlines.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade variation.
  • Use spacers suited to rectified tile and provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile’s size/format.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage per industry requirements for the area of use.
  • Employ a leveling system when helpful to minimize lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support cuts carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where exposed for a finished feel.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout compatible with porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing, application, and curing.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from foot traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • For routine care, use a pH‑neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid acids or harsh abrasives.
  • Place entry mats and use felt pads where appropriate to limit tracked grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
