Installation Guide – Pietra D’Assisi Beige 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Pressed

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and within flatness tolerances for the tile size.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles to balance cuts and align patterns; avoid small slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for pressed edges; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile and the project conditions.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb in one direction with a suitable notched trowel; back-butter 12×24 tiles as needed to improve bond.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (typically 80–95% based on area and exposure).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help control lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support the tile fully and mark cuts carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing, application, and curing.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at changes of plane and movement joints; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout and mortar manufacturers’ maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
