Installation Guide – Nextone White Mark 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow Happy Floors installation instructions, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile industry standards, including relevant ANSI and TCNA guidance. Confirm that the substrate, setting materials, waterproofing, drainage, movement accommodation, and overall installation system are appropriate for the selected application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the tile, shade, lot, finish, and quantity before installation. Blend tiles from multiple boxes as needed to distribute natural variation throughout the layout.
  • Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and properly prepared for porcelain tile. Check flatness according to the requirements of the tile size and installation system.
  • Dry-lay the layout when appropriate to establish balanced cuts and alignment with adjacent surfaces, walls, fixtures, and architectural features.
  • Plan movement joints and changes of plane in accordance with the project conditions, applicable standards, and the setting-material manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a tile-setting mortar specifically approved for porcelain and suitable for the substrate and application. Apply and prepare the mortar according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Key mortar into the prepared substrate, comb it consistently with the recommended trowel, and back-butter where required to support proper coverage and bond.
  • Set each tile with appropriate pressure and movement to collapse mortar ridges and maintain the planned alignment and joint spacing. Periodically check coverage and adjust the installation method if coverage is insufficient.
  • Use spacers or a leveling system when appropriate for the selected layout, while maintaining joints suitable for rectified tile and actual site conditions.
  • Allow the mortar to cure according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions before grouting or permitting traffic. Protect the installation during curing.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut porcelain tile with a quality wet saw and diamond blade suitable for porcelain, following the equipment manufacturer’s safety instructions.
  • Measure and mark cuts carefully, support the tile during cutting, and inspect edges before placement to reduce chipping and improve finished transitions.
  • Use appropriate tools and safety practices for openings, notches, and perimeter cuts. Ease or position exposed cut edges as needed for the design.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select grout compatible with porcelain tile, the planned joint width, and the application. Follow the grout manufacturer’s directions for mixing, placement, cleaning, and cure time.
  • Fill joints fully and remove excess grout using the recommended method. Clean the tile surface promptly while avoiding damage to the finished surface.
  • Do not grout movement joints, changes of plane, or other locations requiring flexible sealant. Use a compatible sealant in accordance with the project design and manufacturer guidance.
  • Keep the installation protected from traffic and moisture exposure as required while the grout and sealant cure.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue using products recommended for porcelain tile and the setting-material manufacturers. Avoid harsh acids, abrasive cleaners, and tools that may damage the surface or grout.
  • Maintain the tile with routine dust removal and a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain. Clean spills promptly and follow the grout manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.
  • For exterior wall applications, maintain surrounding joints, sealants, drainage paths, and other components of the complete installation system as required.
