Installation Guide – Nextone Grey Mark 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow Happy Floors installation instructions, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile industry standards, including relevant ANSI and TCNA guidance. Confirm the tile, substrate, mortar, grout, waterproofing, drainage, and movement-joint requirements for the specific installation before beginning.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the received product, color, size, finish, and lot before installation. Inspect tiles for damage and coordinate material from multiple boxes to distribute natural shade or pattern variation.
  • Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and suitably flat for the selected tile format and installation method.
  • Dry-lay the design where practical and plan field tiles, perimeter cuts, transitions, and focal areas before setting. Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified porcelain tile and the selected layout.
  • Provide movement accommodation at changes in plane, perimeters, transitions, and other locations required by the substrate and applicable industry standards.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Select a suitable mortar approved for porcelain tile and compatible with the prepared substrate and application. Prepare and apply it according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb it consistently with the appropriate trowel. Back-butter or otherwise increase mortar contact as required by the tile size, substrate, and installation conditions.
  • Set each tile with appropriate pressure and movement to achieve proper mortar contact, maintain the planned alignment, and minimize lippage. Do not allow mortar to skin over before placing tile.
  • Keep joints, tile faces, and surrounding surfaces free of excess mortar. Allow the installation to cure according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions before grouting or subjecting it to use.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a quality wet saw and diamond blade suitable for porcelain tile, following the equipment manufacturer’s safety instructions.
  • Measure and mark cuts carefully. Support the tile during cutting to help reduce chipping, and ease or finish exposed cut edges where appropriate.
  • Dry-fit cut pieces before setting, especially at corners, transitions, penetrations, and perimeter conditions.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose grout compatible with porcelain tile, the planned joint width, and the installation environment. Follow the grout manufacturer’s instructions for mixing, application, cleaning, and curing.
  • Fill joints completely while keeping grout out of movement joints, perimeter joints, and changes of plane that require a suitable sealant.
  • Remove grout residue carefully and promptly using the grout manufacturer’s recommended cleaning method. Protect the installation until the grout and setting materials have cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue using products appropriate for porcelain tile and follow the setting-material and grout manufacturers’ cleaning recommendations.
  • Maintain the surface with routine dust removal and a neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain. Avoid harsh abrasives or cleaning products that may damage grout or adjacent materials.
  • Follow the grout manufacturer’s guidance for ongoing maintenance and any recommended sealing. Confirm exterior drainage and weather-related maintenance requirements for outdoor installations.

Disclaimer

Installation should be performed by qualified tile professionals. Actual suitability depends on site conditions, substrate preparation, climate, drainage, waterproofing, and the complete installation system.
