Installation Guide – Navona Honey Cross Cut 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and required waterproofing/drainage for wet or exterior areas.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for the selected tile size.
  • Dry-lay tiles to plan layout, balance cuts, and align patterns; center the field to avoid narrow edge pieces.
  • Blend product from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers appropriate for rectified edges and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171 at changes of plane and perimeters.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile and the project conditions (interior/exterior, wall/floor).
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel. Back-butter tiles as needed to improve bond.
  • Set tiles with a perpendicular slide to collapse ridges and achieve proper contact; target coverage consistent with standards for the application (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system where appropriate to help minimize lippage on larger-format installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade designed for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to reduce chipping and ensure accuracy.
  • Lightly ease exposed cut edges as needed for comfort and safety.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing and application.
  • Pack joints fully, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic and moisture until grout has cured per product instructions.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked-in grit and potential surface abrasion.
  • Follow grout and setting material manufacturers’ maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
