Installation Guide – Macaubas Twilight Anticato 4×12 Porcelain Tile

Important Advisory

Before installation, inspect all cartons for color, shade, size, finish, and visible defects. Confirm that the product is appropriate for the intended application and that the tile, setting materials, substrate, waterproofing, drainage, and movement-joint design are compatible. Follow Happy Floors instructions, setting-material manufacturer directions, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile-industry standards.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Measure the installation area and establish straight reference lines before setting tile.
  • Dry-lay material from multiple boxes to review the Twilight color and Anticato finish and to plan the layout around walls, corners, openings, and transitions.
  • Plan cuts and joint alignment in advance. Rectified tile requires careful layout and consistent spacing; select joint dimensions in accordance with applicable tile-industry standards and the recommendations of the tile, mortar, and grout manufacturers.
  • Include movement accommodation at perimeters, changes of plane, and other locations required by the substrate, structure, climate, and recognized installation standards.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Install only over a clean, dry, flat, stable, and properly prepared substrate that meets the requirements for porcelain tile.
  • Correct cracks, deflection, uneven areas, moisture issues, or damaged substrate conditions before installation.
  • Use a mortar suitable for porcelain tile, the selected substrate, and the intended application. Follow the mortar manufacturer’s mixing, application, open-time, and curing instructions.
  • Apply mortar consistently with the appropriate trowel selected according to substrate conditions, tile format, and manufacturer guidance. Press tiles firmly into the mortar and periodically remove a tile to verify adequate contact and coverage.
  • Maintain the planned alignment and joint spacing throughout the installation. Remove excess mortar from tile faces and joints before it hardens and allow the setting material to cure as directed before grouting.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use professional tile-cutting equipment and a blade suitable for porcelain tile and the Anticato finish.
  • Measure, mark, and dry-fit cut pieces before final placement, allowing for planned joints and movement accommodation.
  • Take care when cutting and handling rectified edges to minimize chipping. Use suitable tools for openings around outlets, plumbing, corners, and other obstacles.
  • Wear appropriate eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection when cutting tile, and follow equipment-safety instructions.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout compatible with porcelain tile, the planned joint width, the installation environment, and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Apply grout according to the grout manufacturer’s instructions, working it fully into the joints while protecting the tile surface.
  • Remove excess grout with suitable cleaning methods before it hardens, using only the amount of water recommended for the grout.
  • Allow the grout to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use flexible sealant rather than rigid grout at changes of plane and movement joints where required by industry standards.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue using cleaning products and methods approved for the tile finish and grout system.
  • Clean regularly with a suitable, non-abrasive tile cleaner and a soft mop or cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive tools, harsh chemicals, and cleaning methods that may damage or alter the Anticato finish.
  • Maintain grout and sealant joints according to their respective manufacturers’ care recommendations.
  • For exterior installations, keep drainage paths clear and address standing water, movement, or other site conditions that could affect the installation.
