Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (e.g., ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required. Confirm surface suitability for polished tile in the intended location.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
- Dry-lay and plan the layout to center the design and minimize small perimeter cuts.
- Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade and pattern variation.
- Use appropriate spacers and maintain a consistent joint width suited to rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain; a large-and-heavy-tile (LHT) mortar may help support 12×24 formats.
