Installation Guide – Statik Blend 12×24 Porcelain Tile Polished Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (e.g., ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required. Confirm surface suitability for polished tile in the intended location.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay and plan the layout to center the design and minimize small perimeter cuts.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade and pattern variation.
  • Use appropriate spacers and maintain a consistent joint width suited to rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain; a large-and-heavy-tile (LHT) mortar may help support 12×24 formats.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage consistent with location and exposure (e.g., 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage with larger-format pieces.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or light service.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw equipped with a premium diamond blade designed for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; verify the grout will not scratch polished surfaces—mock up when in doubt.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer instructions.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives, especially on polished surfaces.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize tracked-in grit and scratching on adjacent finishes.
  • Follow grout and mortar manufacturers’ maintenance recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if specified.
