Engineered in durable porcelain at 3/8 in. (9mm) thickness, this tile offers everyday practicality with low maintenance. Technical specifics include a PEI 3 wear rating and a DCOF of 0.43 (wet). Frost resistance broadens design possibilities to exterior wall facades in freeze–thaw climates.

Installation Guide – Capraia Iron Polished 12×24 Porcelain Tile Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to balance the layout, centering the design and avoiding narrow perimeter cuts.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
  • Plan joint width appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile’s size/weight.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, comb with an appropriate notched trowel, and back-butter tiles as needed to improve contact.
  • Set tiles with a perpendicular, slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (80–95% depending on area).
  • Use a leveling system where appropriate to help minimize lippage, especially with polished surfaces.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support the tile fully when cutting and mark cuts carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Lightly ease sharp cut edges on exposed transitions as needed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing, application, and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at changes of plane and movement joints; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has fully cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads under furniture to minimize abrasion.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
