Installation Guide – Azuma N 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances suitable for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to confirm layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints with the design intent.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation evenly.
  • Use spacers consistent with rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve required bond; target coverage per industry guidelines based on area of use.
  • Utilize a leveling system where needed to help minimize lippage on 12×24 installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to reduce chipping and ensure clean edges.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer directions.
  • Fully pack joints with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these locations.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use walk-off mats and protective pads to limit tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
