Installation Guide – Charcoal 12"x24" Tumbled Travertine Paver
Important Note
This guide covers only the paver placement process. Sub-base and bedding preparation must be completed by qualified professionals prior to paver installation.
Step 1: Dry Layout & Planning
- Dry-lay pavers to review natural color variations and surface textures.
- Arrange in a visually appealing layout, such as running bond or staggered patterns, to reduce visible lippage.
- Mark reference lines for straight, aligned rows during placement.
Step 2: Paver Placement
- Carefully place each 12"x24" paver onto the prepared bedding layer.
- Maintain consistent joint spacing of 1/8"–1/4" to accommodate sand or joint filler.
- Tap each paver lightly with a rubber mallet to achieve proper seating and level alignment.
Step 3: Cutting & Adjustments
- Use a wet saw with a diamond blade suitable for travertine to perform precise cuts.
- Support larger pavers carefully during cutting to avoid edge chipping or breakage.
- File or smooth any exposed cut edges to maintain the natural tumbled appearance.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Fill all joints with polymeric sand or a travertine-compatible joint filler.
- Compact the surface gently, then sweep away any excess sand or filler.
- If using polymeric sand, lightly mist to activate its bonding properties as per manufacturer instructions.
Step 5: Sealing & Maintenance
- After installation is complete and dry, apply a breathable, penetrating sealer safe for exterior travertine.
- Re-seal every 1–2 years, depending on usage and climate exposure.
- Use pH-neutral stone cleaners only; avoid acidic or abrasive chemicals.
Disclaimer
Travertine is a natural material and may include tonal variations, veining, and small surface pits. These are inherent characteristics of the stone and enhance its natural appeal. Always dry-lay and inspect pavers prior to final installation. Professional installation is recommended for optimal performance and longevity.
