Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions and applicable industry standards (ANSI A108/A118/A136, TCNA Handbook). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and local code requirements. In wet areas, coordinate with appropriate waterproofing systems.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm substrate is clean, flat, dry, and structurally sound; correct irregularities before tiling.
- Plan layout with control lines for a balanced appearance; avoid small slivers at perimeters and focal areas.
- Dry-lay several tiles to review shade variation and pattern; blend from multiple boxes for an even distribution.
- Select grout joint width per tile caliber, edge type (pressed), and mortar/grout manufacturer guidance.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a high-quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and the specific substrate.
- Trowel size and technique should achieve proper mortar coverage; comb in one direction and collapse ridges when setting.
