Installation Guide – Tierra Cinza 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Pressed

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for tile of this size.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles and centering the design to reduce small perimeter cuts and align grout joints with focal points.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade variation.
  • For pressed-edge tiles, select a grout joint width appropriate to the edge profile and pattern. Include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with a suitable notched trowel. Back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage, especially on walls or higher-traffic floors.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage consistent with application and location (e.g., higher coverage for wet areas and exteriors).
  • Use a tile alignment/leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage on tiles of this size.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or opening to light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade designed for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully during cutting to reduce chipping.
  • Ease exposed cut edges as needed for a comfortable transition.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and curing instructions.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove residue promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from foot traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads where appropriate to reduce tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
