Installation Guide – Sublime Dorado 12×24 Ceramic Tile Brillo Rectified
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (e.g., ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate requirements, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required by the application.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances suitable for 12×24 tile.
- Plan the layout to center key areas and reduce small perimeter cuts; dry-lay to visualize joints and pattern.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade variation evenly.
- Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171 and project conditions.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a high-quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar suitable for ceramic and for the size/weight of 12×24 tiles per manufacturer guidance.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; meet or exceed coverage requirements for the area of use.
- Check alignment and lippage frequently; use a leveling system if needed for flatter results on larger-format installations.
- Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut using a wet saw with a premium diamond blade suitable for ceramic tile.
- Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to minimize chipping.
- Ease sharp cut edges where exposed for a refined finish.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select a grout compatible with ceramic tile and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure guidance.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic and moisture until grout has cured.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for ceramic tile.
- Avoid harsh acids, alkalis, or abrasive pads that may damage the surface or grout.
- Use entry mats and felt pads to minimize abrasion from tracked-in debris.
- Follow grout manufacturer recommendations regarding sealing and maintenance.
