Installation Guide – Stratus Grigio Polished Rectified 4×12 Porcelain Tile

Important Advisory

Inspect all tiles before installation to confirm color, shade, finish, size, and condition. Plan the installation in accordance with Happy Floors instructions, the setting-material manufacturers’ recommendations, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile-industry standards. Confirm that the polished finish, substrate, drainage, waterproofing, and environmental conditions are appropriate for the intended application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify measurements and establish control lines before setting tile.
  • Dry-lay material to review the Grigio color, polished surface, rectified edges, and overall layout.
  • Plan cuts, transitions, corners, fixtures, and movement accommodation before installation begins.
  • Use tiles from multiple boxes as needed to maintain a balanced appearance across the installation area; follow any manufacturer guidance regarding shade variation.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Prepare a clean, dry, flat, stable, and properly supported substrate that meets applicable tile-installation requirements.
  • Correct cracks, uneven areas, moisture issues, or other substrate problems before setting the tile.
  • Use a mortar or adhesive recommended for porcelain tile, the substrate, and the specific installation environment.
  • Apply setting material according to its manufacturer’s instructions and periodically verify appropriate contact and coverage.
  • Set each tile carefully, maintaining the planned alignment and consistent joints with suitable spacers or layout tools where appropriate. Avoid sliding or dragging tiles in a way that could affect the polished surface or bond.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a professional tile cutter or wet saw with equipment suitable for porcelain tile and its polished finish.
  • Measure and dry-fit cut pieces before final placement.
  • Make detailed cuts with tools appropriate for porcelain, and handle cut edges carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Protect finished surfaces during cutting and installation, and remove residue before it hardens.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Allow the setting material to cure according to the mortar or adhesive manufacturer’s instructions before grouting.
  • Select grout compatible with porcelain tile, the planned joint width, and the installation environment.
  • Apply grout in accordance with the grout manufacturer’s instructions, removing excess from the polished surface promptly with a clean, appropriate sponge.
  • Use movement joints where required by the substrate, layout, environmental conditions, or applicable industry standards; do not fill changes of plane with rigid grout when a suitable sealant is required.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove mortar, grout residue, and construction dust using products and methods approved for polished porcelain tile.
  • Clean routinely with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner suitable for porcelain and the polished finish.
  • Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, and tools that may scratch or dull the surface.
  • Maintain grout and flexible sealant joints according to their manufacturers’ care recommendations.
