Installation Guide – Statik Blend 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 large-format tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align patterning; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
  • Choose a grout joint width appropriate for rectified edges and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain; select a large-and-heavy-tile (LHT) mortar where appropriate for 12×24 formats.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles to improve bond and coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (typically 80–95% depending on area and exposure).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help control lippage with larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut using a wet saw fitted with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Measure and mark carefully; support the tile fully during cuts to minimize chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic and moisture until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer recommendations for care; seal cementitious grout if and when recommended.
