Important Advisory
Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the application.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 large-format tile.
- Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align patterning; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
- Choose a grout joint width appropriate for rectified edges and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain; select a large-and-heavy-tile (LHT) mortar where appropriate for 12×24 formats.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles to improve bond and coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (typically 80–95% depending on area and exposure).

- Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic and moisture until grout has cured.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
- Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
- Follow grout manufacturer recommendations for care; seal cementitious grout if and when recommended.
