Installation Guide – Odine Blue 12×24 Porcelain Tile Matte Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, center the design, and minimize small perimeter cuts.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation.
  • Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and the tile’s format.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to meet coverage requirements per standards and application.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and ensure bond; use a leveling system if helpful to minimize lippage.
  • Observe manufacturer cure times before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure instructions.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner appropriate for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked grit and surface wear.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
