Installation Guide – Nextone Dark Line 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for large-format tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout and balance cuts; avoid slivers at perimeters and focal areas.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Select a joint width suitable for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile size/format.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve the bond coverage required by application (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help manage lippage with 12×24 formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut using a wet saw with a high-quality porcelain-rated diamond blade.
  • Support the tile fully and mark cuts carefully to minimize chipping.
  • Ease or dress sharp cut edges at exposed transitions as needed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure instructions.
  • Pack joints completely with a rubber float, clean diagonally across joints, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids and abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads on furniture to limit grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout and mortar manufacturers’ care recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if specified.
