Installation Guide – Navona Bone Cross Cut 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within industry tolerances for large-format tile.
- Dry-lay and center the layout to minimize small perimeter cuts and balance the design.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation evenly.
- Select a grout joint consistent with rectified tile and the chosen pattern; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171 at all required locations.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and large-format tiles.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notch; back-butter tiles to improve contact.
- Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (typically 80–95% depending on area and exposure).
- Use a tile leveling system as needed to help control lippage on 12×24 installations.
- Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut with a wet saw and a quality diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
- Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
- Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select a grout compatible with porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid harsh acids and abrasives.
- Use entry mats and furniture pads to minimize grit and scratching.
- Follow grout and setting material manufacturers’ maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
