Installation Guide – Mun Beige 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the Happy Floors installation recommendations, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile industry standards, including relevant ANSI and TCNA guidance. Confirm that the substrate, setting materials, waterproofing, drainage, and movement accommodation are appropriate for the specific installation.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and suitably flat for the selected tile format.
  • Plan the layout before setting tile, balancing the installation to reduce small perimeter cuts and coordinating transitions with adjoining materials.
  • Inspect tile before installation and blend pieces from multiple boxes where appropriate to distribute normal shade and pattern variation.
  • Use spacers or an approved layout method to maintain consistent joints. Provide movement accommodation at required perimeters, transitions, and changes in plane.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a setting mortar approved for porcelain tile and appropriate for the substrate and installation location.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb it in a consistent direction with a suitable trowel. Back-butter tiles when needed to promote proper contact and support.
  • Set each tile with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse mortar ridges and achieve the coverage required for the application. Periodically lift tiles to verify coverage.
  • Keep the tile faces and joints clean during installation. Allow the mortar to cure according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions before grouting or permitting traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut porcelain tile with a wet saw and a diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Measure and mark cuts carefully, supporting the tile during cutting to help minimize chipping.
  • Ease or finish exposed cut edges as needed at transitions and other visible locations.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout compatible with porcelain tile and the selected joint width, and follow the grout manufacturer’s instructions for mixing, placement, cleaning, and curing.
  • Pack joints fully, remove excess grout carefully, and clean the surface without disturbing the joints.
  • Use an appropriate flexible sealant at movement joints, corners, changes of plane, and other locations where specified. Do not fill these joints with rigid grout.
  • Protect the finished installation from traffic and contamination until the grout and setting materials have cured as directed.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue according to the setting-material and grout manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile. Avoid harsh acids, abrasive products, and methods that may damage grout or adjacent surfaces.
  • Use mats or other practical measures to reduce tracked-in grit, and follow the grout manufacturer’s recommendations for ongoing care.
