Installation Guide – Macaubas Twilight 12×24 Polished Porcelain Tile Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan the layout, center the design, and avoid small perimeter cuts.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the layout; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thinset mortar approved for porcelain and the tile’s size.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles to improve bond and coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back‑and‑forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage levels per standards (higher coverage in wet or exterior areas).
  • Use a tile leveling system where beneficial to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow the mortar to cure as directed before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Measure and mark carefully; support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges when exposed for safer, cleaner transitions.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for mixing and curing.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Protect polished surfaces during grouting and cleaning to avoid scratching; test in an inconspicuous area if unsure.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner approved for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked-in grit.
  • Follow grout and mortar manufacturers’ care guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
