Installation Guide – Lunar White 12×24 Porcelain Tile Matte Rectified
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for 12×24 tile.
- Dry-lay and center the layout to avoid small perimeter cuts and to align with key visual lines.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade variation evenly.
- Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and, where needed, large-format tile.
- Key mortar into the substrate, comb with an appropriate notched trowel, and back-butter tiles to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage appropriate to the application (typically 80–95%).
- Use a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
- Observe mortar cure times before grouting or allowing light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
- Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
- Lightly ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing and cure.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Routinely clean with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
- Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize grit and scratching.
- Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
