Installation Guide – Kursaal Raven 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Pre‑plan the layout, dry‑laying pieces to balance cuts and avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade variation evenly.
  • Select a grout joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the pattern; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain tile and the project conditions.
  • Key mortar into the substrate and comb in one direction; back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage, especially with 12×24 pieces.
  • Set tile with a slight motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; follow industry guidance for required coverage based on area and exposure.
  • Use a leveling system when appropriate to help minimize lippage on larger-format installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or permitting light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut using a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until the grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner approved for porcelain; avoid acids or harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and furniture pads to minimize grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout and setting material manufacturers’ care recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if specified.
