Installation Guide – Iron Pearl 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for the tile size.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout and balance cuts; center the design and avoid narrow perimeter pieces where possible.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers appropriate for rectified tile; never butt-joint. Provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile; select trowel size per substrate flatness and tile size.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction. Back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; follow industry guidance for required coverage based on area and exposure.
  • Use a tile leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage, especially with larger formats like 12×24.
  • Observe cure times given by the mortar manufacturer before grouting or allowing light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support the tile fully and mark cuts carefully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing and application.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads on furniture to reduce tracked grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if specified.
