Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA). Confirm substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

• Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for 12×24 tile.
• Plan the layout by dry‑fitting tiles and balancing cuts; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
• Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute any shade variation evenly.
• Select an appropriate joint width for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

• Use a polymer‑modified thinset mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile’s size.
• Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
• Set with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve required bond; target coverage per industry guidelines for the application and location.
• Use a tile leveling system when necessary to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
• Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

• Cut using a wet saw with a premium diamond blade designed for porcelain.
• Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
• Lightly ease exposed cut edges where appropriate.

Step 4: Joint Filling

• Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing, placement, and cure.
• Pack joints completely with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
• Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
• Protect the installation from traffic until grout has fully cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

• Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
• Use entry mats and furniture pads to reduce tracked grit and scratching.
• Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if advised.
