Installation Guide – Crash Blue 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Plan the layout, dry-lay to balance cuts, and align key visuals; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
  • Use spacers consistent with rectified edges and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles as needed to meet coverage requirements per ANSI A108.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve a strong bond.
  • Use a tile leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage with the 12×24 format.
  • Respect movement joints and perimeter clearances; allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidelines before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw equipped with a premium diamond blade for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer instructions for mixing and cure.
  • Fill joints completely with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and promptly remove haze with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at changes of plane and movement joints; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid acids or harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to limit tracked grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
