Installation Guide – Breccia Lunare White 12×24 Premium Polished Porcelain Tile Rectified
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for the tile size.
- Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints; center the design in key sightlines.
- Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
- Select a joint width suitable for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
- Key mortar into the substrate and comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve required bond; follow coverage requirements based on application and location.
- Use a tile leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage on larger formats.
- Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut with a wet saw and a quality diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
- Mark and support cuts carefully to reduce chipping; ease sharp cut edges where exposed.
- Drill accessory holes with diamond core bits at low speed and with adequate cooling.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Choose a grout appropriate for porcelain and the selected joint width.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use flexible sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic until the grout has cured per manufacturer directions.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid acids, bleach, and harsh abrasives.
- Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize abrasion from tracked-in grit.
- Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
