Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
- Dry-lay to confirm layout, balance cuts, and align patterning; blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade variation.
- Plan joint width suitable for rectified tile and the intended grout; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
- For running-bond/brick patterns with 12×24 rectangles, consider a maximum 33% offset per industry guidance to help minimize lippage.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a high-quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
