Installation Guide – Azuma CG 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and applicable ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines. Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the intended application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan the layout, balance cuts, and center the pattern to avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend tiles from multiple cartons to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a high-quality polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with a suitable notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed for full support.
  • Set tiles with a slight lateral motion to collapse ridges and promote bond; achieve coverage appropriate to location and service (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a tile leveling system if needed to help reduce lippage with 12×24 formats.
  • Observe mortar manufacturer cure times before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support tiles fully and mark cuts carefully to minimize chipping.
  • Ease exposed cut edges where appropriate for safer, cleaner transitions.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout compatible with porcelain and the intended joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure instructions.
  • Pack joints completely with a rubber float and clean diagonally, removing haze promptly with clean water.
  • Apply appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and furniture pads to reduce tracked grit and potential scratching.
  • Maintain grout per manufacturer recommendations; seal cementitious grout if advised.
