Installation Guide – Azuma 2.0 W 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow Happy Floors installation instructions, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile industry standards, including ANSI and TCNA guidance where applicable. Confirm that the substrate, mortar, grout, waterproofing, drainage, and movement-joint requirements are appropriate for the specific installation.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and suitably flat for the selected tile format.
  • Dry-lay the tile to plan the layout, balance perimeter cuts, and coordinate transitions with adjacent materials.
  • Inspect material before installation and blend tiles from multiple boxes when appropriate to distribute natural shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified porcelain tile and the selected layout. Provide movement accommodation in accordance with industry standards and site conditions.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a mortar approved by its manufacturer for porcelain tile and the intended application.
  • Apply mortar to the properly prepared substrate using an appropriate method for the tile size and installation conditions. Back-buttering may be appropriate where needed to improve mortar contact.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse mortar ridges and achieve the coverage required for the application.
  • Check alignment and surface plane regularly during installation, and use a suitable leveling method when helpful.
  • Allow the mortar to cure according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions before grouting or permitting traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut porcelain tile with a wet saw and a diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Measure and mark cuts carefully, supporting the tile during cutting to help reduce chipping.
  • Ease or finish exposed cut edges as needed at transitions and other visible locations.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select grout compatible with porcelain tile, the intended joint width, and the installation environment.
  • Follow the grout manufacturer’s instructions for mixing, application, cleaning, and curing.
  • Fill joints fully, remove excess grout carefully, and clean residue before it hardens.
  • Use an appropriate sealant at movement joints, changes of plane, and perimeter transitions rather than filling those locations with rigid grout.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue using products recommended for porcelain tile and the grout system.
  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning methods.
  • Protect the finished surface during construction and follow the mortar and grout manufacturers’ maintenance recommendations.
  • Confirm whether any grout or adjacent materials require periodic sealing or other maintenance.

Disclaimer

Installation should be performed by qualified tile professionals. Always confirm the actual material, shade, lot variation, site conditions, and application suitability before installation.
