Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required by application.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for the selected tile size.
- Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles and centering the pattern to avoid narrow perimeter cuts.
- Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade/pattern variation.
- Select a grout joint appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
- Key mortar into the substrate, comb with a suitable notched trowel, and back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight back‑and‑forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage levels appropriate to the area of use (typically 80–95%).
