Installation Guide – Atlantic Bone Sand 12×24 Porcelain Tile Matte Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required by application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for the selected tile size.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles and centering the pattern to avoid narrow perimeter cuts.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute shade/pattern variation.
  • Select a grout joint appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, comb with a suitable notched trowel, and back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back‑and‑forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage levels appropriate to the area of use (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system when helpful to reduce lippage on larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or opening to light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade designed for porcelain.
  • Mark cut lines clearly and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease exposed cut edges where appropriate for a comfortable transition.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow the manufacturer’s mixing and cure guidance.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, wipe diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use flexible sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer recommendations.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads on furniture to minimize grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
