Stone Properties & Handling – Know Your Material

• Polished Finish: Royal Beige marble features a smooth, polished surface that enhances its elegance but can scratch easily. Always handle with care and avoid abrasive tools during installation and cleaning.
• Porosity: Marble is moderately porous and can absorb liquids, leading to stains if not sealed properly. A high-quality penetrating sealer is essential to protect the surface after installation.
• Natural Veining: Royal Beige typically displays beautiful veining and color variation. Dry-lay sheets to align veining patterns and ensure a consistent flow.
• Acid Sensitivity: As with all marbles, Royal Beige is sensitive to acidic substances that can cause etching. Use only pH-neutral cleaners and avoid acidic spills during and after installation.
• Cutting Considerations: Marble is dense yet can chip at edges during cutting. Always use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade for clean, smooth cuts, and smooth edges after cutting with a stone file.

Step 1: Surface Preparation – Start with a Clean Foundation

• Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and debris.
• Check that the surface is level, solid, and free from cracks to ensure a stable installation.
• Apply a waterproofing membrane in wet areas, such as showers, to protect against moisture damage.
• Remove trims, outlet covers, or any obstructions that could interfere with sheet placement.
• Use a leveling compound if necessary to correct uneven surfaces before starting.

Step 2: Layout Planning – Maintain Pattern Consistency

• Find the center of the wall or floor to create a symmetrical and balanced layout.
• Dry-lay the sheets to preview natural veining and color variation, and adjust placement for optimal flow and alignment.
• Plan ahead to avoid small or awkward cuts at edges or corners.
• Use 1.5–3 mm spacers between sheets to maintain uniform grout lines and consistent spacing.

Step 3: Adhesive Application – Choose a Reliable Thin-Set

Recommended Brands:

• Mapei (White Thin-Set Mortar)
• Laticrete
• Ardex

Instructions:

• Mix small batches of thin-set mortar that can be applied within 30 minutes to prevent premature drying.
• Use the flat side of a 1/4″ notched trowel to apply adhesive evenly over the substrate.
• Comb the mortar at a 45° angle for optimal coverage and bonding strength.
• Lightly back-butter each mosaic sheet to ensure full contact and reduce the risk of lippage.
• Work in small sections to prevent the thin-set from drying before the tile is placed.

Step 4: Cutting & Fitting – Handle with Precision

• Use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade to cut the marble cleanly and accurately.
• Mark cuts precisely using a pencil or wax pencil to maintain accuracy and alignment.
• Smooth any rough edges with a stone file or rubbing block to prevent chipping or damage.
• Dry-fit all cut pieces before final installation to ensure alignment with the overall pattern.

Step 5: Setting Tiles – Keep the Pattern Flowing

• Start from the center of the layout and work outward to ensure symmetry and consistent pattern flow.
• Press each mesh-backed sheet firmly into the adhesive bed, ensuring full contact and no air pockets.
• Use spacers between sheets to maintain consistent spacing and grout lines.
• Gently tap sheets with a rubber mallet or float to achieve a level surface and even height.
• Clean any excess thin-set from the surface with a damp sponge before it dries.
• Allow the installation to cure for at least 24 hours before grouting.

Step 6: Grouting & Sealing – Finish with Care

• Use non-sanded grout to avoid scratching the polished marble surface.
• Apply grout diagonally with a rubber float to fill joints completely and evenly.
• Wipe off excess grout promptly with a damp sponge to prevent haze buildup.
• After 15–20 minutes, buff the surface gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove any residual haze.
• Allow grout to cure for at least 72 hours before sealing.
• Seal the polished marble with a high-quality, penetrating marble-safe sealer to protect against stains and moisture.

Maintenance Tips – Keep It Looking New

• Clean regularly using only pH-neutral, stone-safe cleaners to preserve the polished surface.
• Avoid harsh or acidic cleaning products that can etch or dull the finish.
• Reseal periodically as recommended by the sealer manufacturer, especially in high-traffic or wet areas.
• Use felt pads under nearby furniture to prevent scratches and damage.
