Installation Guide – Milas White Chair Rail Trim (2"x12" Honed)
Step 1: Surface Preparation – Ready the Base
- Ensure the wall surface is dry, clean, and free of dust or contaminants.
- Mark a level horizontal guideline where the trim will be installed (usually atop wainscot or tile borders).
- Install all adjacent field tile prior to placing the chair rail.
Step 2: Dry Layout – Align and Preview
- Dry-lay trim pieces to assess color tone and veining alignment.
- Use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade to trim pieces or create mitered corners as needed.
Step 3: Adhesive Application – Secure the Trim
Recommended Adhesives:
- Laticrete 254 Platinum (white)
- Mapei Ultraflex LFT or equivalent white thin-set mortar
Instructions:
- Apply thin-set mortar to the back of the chair rail using a margin trowel.
- Back-butter to ensure full coverage and press each piece firmly into place.
- Use painter’s tape to support pieces while curing (allow 24 hours minimum).
Step 4: Grouting – Finalize the Look
- Use unsanded grout to avoid scratching the honed marble surface.
- Fill joints carefully and wipe away excess with a damp sponge.
- Buff away haze after 30–45 minutes with a soft cloth.
Step 5: Sealing – Preserve the Stone
- After grout cures (typically 72 hours), apply a penetrating sealer safe for honed marble.
- Reseal periodically depending on use and moisture exposure.
Maintenance Tips
- Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaners only.
- Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners to protect the honed finish.
- Gently dust or wipe with a soft cloth to retain its natural luster.
