Installation Guide – Calacatta Marble Pencil Liner (Honed)
Step 1: Surface Preparation – Clean and Stable Base
- Ensure the wall surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or debris.
- Install all field tiles or main panels before adding the trim pieces.
- Mark a precise, level guideline where the pencil liner will be positioned.
Step 2: Dry Layout – Pre-Fitting and Visual Planning
- Lay out all Calacatta pencil liners dry before installation to confirm tone and veining consistency.
- Use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade for smooth, chip-free cuts.
- Test-fit each piece to ensure perfect alignment along edges or transitions.
Step 3: Adhesive Application – Thin-Set Installation
Recommended Adhesives:
- Laticrete 254 Platinum (White)
- Mapei Ultraflex LFT (White)
Instructions:
- Back-butter each pencil liner using a small margin trowel and white thin-set mortar.
- Gently press into place along your marked line, ensuring full contact with the surface.
- Use painter’s tape if needed to hold the trim in position while mortar cures (24 hours minimum).
Step 4: Grouting – Precision Detailing
- Once the mortar has cured, apply unsanded grout to fill joints and protect the honed marble surface from scratches.
- Clean excess grout with a damp sponge and buff off haze after 30–45 minutes.
Step 5: Sealing – Long-Term Protection
- After the grout has fully cured (approx. 72 hours), apply a penetrating sealer designed for natural marble.
- Re-seal periodically depending on moisture exposure and cleaning frequency.
Maintenance Tips
- Use only pH-neutral, non-acidic cleaners specifically made for marble surfaces.
- Avoid vinegar, bleach, or any acidic cleaning products that may etch the honed finish.
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately to preserve its natural sheen.
Important Note
Calacatta is a natural marble and will exhibit unique variations in color, veining, and pattern from piece to piece. These natural differences are part of its timeless appeal.
