Installation Guide – Titan Ivory Deco 4×12 Glossy Ceramic Tile

Review the entire order before installation to confirm color, finish, size, edge profile, and quantity. Follow Happy Floors installation recommendations, mortar and grout manufacturer instructions, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile-industry standards. Confirm that the selected substrate and installation environment are appropriate for this ceramic wall tile.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, flat, stable, and suitable for ceramic tile installation. Repair cracks, movement, uneven areas, or other substrate conditions before setting tile.
- Measure the installation area and establish reference lines to guide the layout. Dry-lay the 4×12 tiles to plan the pattern, borders, corners, penetrations, and cut locations.
- Coordinate the layout with adjoining surfaces, fixtures, trim, and changes of plane. Select grout-joint spacing in accordance with the tile, mortar, grout, and applicable industry recommendations.
- For shower walls and other moisture-prone areas, use a properly designed and code-compliant waterproofing system beneath the tile assembly where required.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a quality thin-set mortar suitable for ceramic wall tile and compatible with the prepared substrate. Select the mortar and application method according to manufacturer instructions and site conditions.
- Apply mortar evenly with an appropriate notched trowel, working within the mortar manufacturer’s open time. Press each tile firmly into place to establish proper contact and alignment.
- Use spacers or an approved leveling method as appropriate to maintain consistent joints. Check lines, spacing, and surface alignment frequently throughout the installation.
- Periodically remove a tile to verify adequate mortar transfer and coverage. Adjust the installation method if coverage is insufficient for the project requirements.
- Allow the mortar to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before grouting. Do not expose the installation to service conditions before the setting materials have properly cured.
Step 3: Cutting
- Measure and dry-fit each cut before applying mortar. Use a professional tile cutter, wet saw, or other equipment with a blade appropriate for glazed ceramic tile.
- Protect the glossy surface while cutting and handling the material. Make careful openings for outlets, plumbing, corners, and other penetrations using suitable ceramic-tile tools.
- Position cut edges in locations coordinated with trim, corners, fixtures, or adjacent surfaces where appropriate. Inspect cut pieces before setting.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Use a grout compatible with glazed ceramic tile, the selected joint width, and the installation environment.
- Apply grout according to the grout manufacturer’s instructions, working it fully into the joints and removing excess material from the tile surface promptly.
- Clean the surface with a clean, damp sponge while avoiding excessive water. Allow the grout to cure as directed, then remove any remaining haze with a method approved for the tile and grout.
- Use flexible sealant rather than rigid grout at changes of plane, movement joints, and other locations required by the installation design or applicable standards.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean the glossy ceramic surface with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner suitable for glazed tile.
- Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, and tools that may scratch or dull the finish.
- Wipe away grease, soap residue, and other buildup promptly, especially in backsplashes and shower-wall installations.
- Maintain grout and flexible sealant joints according to their manufacturers’ care and maintenance recommendations.
