Important Advisory

Plan the layout carefully and follow Happy Floors’ product instructions, mortar and grout manufacturer requirements, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile-industry standards. Do not install material that appears damaged or unsuitable for the intended location.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is suitable for tile and establish control and reference lines before setting material.
- Dry-lay tiles to review the Oro color, polished finish, rectified edges, and overall layout. Mix tiles from multiple boxes where appropriate to help distribute natural variation.
- Plan cuts, transitions, borders, fixtures, and perimeter conditions before applying mortar. Maintain the selected pattern and alignment throughout the installation.
- Determine grout-joint width and movement-joint placement according to applicable industry standards and the recommendations of the tile, mortar, and grout manufacturers.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Prepare a clean, dry, flat, stable, and structurally sound substrate appropriate for porcelain tile. Correct cracks, deflection, contamination, or uneven areas before installation.
- Use a high-quality thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile and compatible with the substrate and installation environment.
- Apply mortar with an appropriate notched trowel selected according to substrate conditions and the mortar manufacturer’s instructions. Work within the mortar’s open time.
- Set tiles with firm, even pressure and periodically lift a tile to verify adequate mortar transfer and coverage. Avoid voids beneath the tile and remove excess mortar from joints before it hardens.

Step 3: Cutting

- Handle cut pieces carefully to reduce chipping, and position exposed cuts where they will be concealed by trim, transitions, or adjacent construction when possible.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Allow the mortar to cure according to the mortar manufacturer’s instructions before grouting.
- Select grout compatible with porcelain tile, the planned joint width, and the installation conditions. Apply it according to the grout manufacturer’s directions.
- Remove excess grout promptly with a clean, damp sponge while avoiding excessive water. Protect the installation from traffic and use until the grout has cured as directed.
- Provide movement joints at required changes in plane, perimeters, and other locations identified by applicable standards or the project design. Use a suitable flexible sealant rather than rigid grout where required.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Remove mortar and grout residue from the polished surface using cleaning methods approved for porcelain tile and without allowing cementitious residue to harden.
- Clean regularly with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner suitable for polished porcelain tile. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, and tools that could dull or scratch the finish.
- Wipe spills and buildup promptly, and maintain grout joints according to the grout manufacturer’s care recommendations.
- Follow the cleaner and grout manufacturer’s guidance regarding sealing and ongoing maintenance; do not apply a product that is incompatible with the polished finish.
