Mun Dark 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Sophisticated and modern, the Mun Dark 12×24 porcelain tile features a deep, dark tone with a natural matte surface. The elongated 12×24 format minimizes grout lines for a smooth, contemporary look, while rectified edges support tight, consistent joints.

Crafted in durable porcelain with a 9mm (3/8") thickness, this tile balances design flexibility with everyday practicality. A wet DCOF greater than 0.42 and a PEI 3 wear rating make it a smart choice for residential floors and walls, as well as light commercial walls and floors. Frost resistance expands design options to exterior facades in freeze–thaw climates.

Use Mun Dark on its own for bold minimalism or pair it with complementary materials to build layered, architectural detail across kitchens, baths, living areas, and feature walls.

Installation Guide – Mun Dark 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for large-format tile.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles and centering the design to avoid small perimeter cuts.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade variation evenly.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified tile; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and large-format applications.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter large-format tiles to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve the coverage required by location and exposure (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage on large-format installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or allowing light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw and a premium diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges as needed for exposed transitions.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer guidance.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads where appropriate to minimize tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout and mortar manufacturers’ maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
