Installation Guide – Odine White 12×24 Porcelain Tile Matte Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for large-format tile (12×24).
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints with room sightlines.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use joint spacing appropriate for rectified porcelain and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and large-format tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage per ANSI requirements for the area of use (typically 80–95%).
  • Employ a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage with large-format installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw and a quality diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to minimize chipping; ease sharp cut edges where exposed.
  • Drill openings with porcelain-rated diamond bits at low speed with adequate cooling.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing, application, and cure times.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and promptly remove haze with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads to reduce tracked-in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; reseal cementitious grout if recommended.
