The Happy Floors Kobe Calacatta Viola 12×24 porcelain tile pairs a sophisticated stone-look aesthetic with a smooth natural (matte) surface. Its rectified edges support narrow, consistent grout joints, helping the 12×24 format read clean and contemporary across floors and walls.

Engineered in durable porcelain with a 3/8 in (10mm) thickness, Kobe Calacatta Viola offers everyday practicality alongside design flexibility. Installation Guide – Kobe Calacatta Viola 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances for large-format tile.
  • Dry-lay to plan layout, balance cuts, and center the design in key sightlines.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade/pattern variation evenly.
  • Use spacers appropriate for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171, especially at perimeters, changes of plane, and transitions.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and, where needed, for large-format tile.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in straight lines with a suitable notched trowel; back-butter tiles to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage levels appropriate to the area (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system as needed to help minimize lippage on 12×24 installations.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and application guidelines.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective glides to minimize tracked grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer recommendations for sealing and maintenance of cementitious grout, if applicable.
