Installation Guide – Phase Dark 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (e.g., ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for the tile size.
  • Dry-lay to plan the layout, balance cuts, and align patterns; avoid small slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified tile; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thinset mortar approved for porcelain and, if needed, for larger-format tiles like 12×24.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel. Back‑butter tiles as needed to improve bond.
  • Set tiles with a slight back‑and‑forth motion to collapse ridges; achieve mortar coverage consistent with application and location (commonly 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help minimize lippage on 12×24 layouts.
  • Allow the mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to help reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges as needed where edges may remain exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealants at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured per manufacturer guidance.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to help reduce tracked‑in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; seal cementitious grout if specified.
