Installation Guide – Berwyn Bluestone 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for the tile size.
  • Dry‑lay tiles to plan layout, balance cuts, and align joints; center the design to avoid narrow perimeter pieces.
  • Blend product from multiple boxes to distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Use spacers consistent with rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain tile and the intended substrate.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb uniformly with an appropriate notched trowel; back‑butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
  • Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; meet or exceed coverage requirements for the area of use.
  • Use a leveling system if needed to help control lippage, especially with larger formats and aligned patterns.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or subjecting the installation to traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut using a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to minimize chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured as directed.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to reduce tracked‑in grit and potential scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance recommendations; seal cementitious grout if advised.
