Installation Guide – Cipriani Almond 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Pressed
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, and movement accommodation. Use appropriate waterproofing and drainage in wet areas and exteriors.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for 12×24 tile.
- Dry-lay to balance cuts and align patterns; avoid small slivers at perimeters and focal areas.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
- Select a grout joint consistent with pressed edges and layout; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in straight lines with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; meet or exceed coverage requirements for the space (refer to ANSI/TCNA).
- Use a tile leveling system when helpful to control lippage on 12×24 installations.
- Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
- Measure and mark carefully; support the tile fully to minimize chipping.
- Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select a grout suitable for porcelain and the chosen joint width; mix and apply per manufacturer instructions.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float; clean diagonally and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from foot traffic until grout has cured.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasives.
- Use entry mats and protective pads on furniture to reduce tracked grit and potential scratching.
- Follow grout and setting material manufacturers’ care recommendations; reseal cementitious grout if advised.
