Important Advisory
Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify substrate suitability, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required for the project.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and flat within tolerances for large-format tile such as 12×24.
- Dry-lay to confirm layout, balance cuts, and align grout joints; avoid narrow perimeter slivers.
- Blend tiles from multiple cartons to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
- Plan joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the pattern; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer‑modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and the project conditions.
- Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles to improve coverage.
- Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and ensure bond; target coverage per standards (typically 80% interior, up to 95% in wet/exterior areas).

Step 3: Cutting

- Use entry mats and furniture glides to minimize grit and scratching.
