Installation Guide – Myra Shell Limestone Tumbled 12″x24″ Paver
Material Overview
- Natural limestone paver featuring a tumbled finish with softened edges.
- Designed for horizontal outdoor applications such as patios, pool decks, walkways, courtyards, and outdoor living spaces.
- Suitable for both dry-set installations (recommended for patios and pool decks) and wet-set installations over concrete substrates.
Step 1: Surface Preparation (Dry-Set Application)
- Excavate the installation area to a depth of 6″–8″, depending on climate conditions and anticipated load.
- Install 4″–6″ of compacted crushed gravel or road base. Compact in layers using a plate compactor.
- Add approximately 1″ of bedding sand and screed evenly to create a level surface.
Step 2: Dry Laying the Pavers
- Begin laying the Myra Shell limestone pavers in your chosen pattern, such as running bond, linear, or stack bond.
- Maintain consistent joint spacing of approximately 1/8″–1/4″ to accommodate the natural variation of tumbled edges.
- Grout is not required for dry-set installations; use polymeric sand or high-quality joint sand instead.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use a wet saw or angle grinder equipped with a diamond blade approved for natural stone.
- Perform all cutting outdoors and wear appropriate eye, hearing, and dust protection.
Step 4: Joint Stabilization
- After all pavers are placed, sweep polymeric sand into the joints to stabilize the installation.
- Compact the surface and apply additional sand as needed.
- Lightly mist the surface with water to activate the polymeric sand, allowing it to set properly.
Alternative: Wet-Set Installation
- Apply a suitable exterior-grade mortar or thin-set adhesive over a concrete slab using a 1/2″ notched trowel.
- Back-butter each limestone paver to ensure full adhesion.
- Maintain minimal joint spacing and clean excess mortar from joints immediately.
Sealing & Maintenance
- Seal the surface with a penetrating, breathable sealer specifically formulated for limestone.
- Avoid topical or film-forming sealers, as they may alter the natural appearance of tumbled stone.
- Reapply sealer every 1–2 years depending on exposure and traffic.
- Clean regularly using a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic or abrasive products.
