Installation Guide – Odine Ivory 12×24 Porcelain Tile Matte Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Verify suitability for the intended application, prepare substrates correctly, and include movement accommodation and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay and center the layout to balance cuts and avoid narrow slivers at perimeters or focal areas.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
  • Select a grout joint width appropriate for rectified edges and the pattern; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain and for the tile’s size and application.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage consistent with ANSI/TCNA for location and exposure.
  • Use a leveling system where helpful to minimize lippage with 12×24 tiles.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut using a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support tiles carefully to reduce chipping on cuts.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing, application, and cure.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove residual haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured as specified.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads where appropriate to reduce tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer guidance for care; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
