Installation Guide – Naica Bianco 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, waterproofing/drainage where required, and provide movement accommodation joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles and centering the design to avoid small perimeter cuts.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade and pattern variation evenly.
  • Select a joint width appropriate for rectified tile and the intended pattern; include movement joints at perimeters and transitions.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thin-set mortar approved for porcelain tile; select products suitable for the project’s substrate and size format.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to increase contact.
  • Set tiles with a slight back-and-forth motion to collapse ridges and achieve required coverage (refer to ANSI/TCNA for area-specific minimums).
  • Use a leveling system where helpful to minimize lippage with rectangular formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or subjecting to light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw and a quality diamond blade designed for porcelain.
  • Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
  • Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer directions for mixing, application, and cure times.
  • Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile; avoid acids or harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and felt pads where appropriate to limit tracked-in grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer maintenance guidance; seal cementitious grout if recommended.
