Installation Guide – Macael Blanco 12×24 Porcelain Tile Polished Rectified
Important Advisory
Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA). Verify substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Confirm the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
- Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles, centering the pattern, and avoiding sliver cuts at perimeters or focal areas.
- Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute any shade variation evenly.
- Use spacers suitable for rectified tile and include movement joints per TCNA EJ171 and project conditions.
Step 2: Tile Installation
- Use a polymer-modified thinset mortar approved for porcelain and the installation environment (interior, exterior, wet, or dry).
- Key mortar into the substrate and comb in one direction with an appropriate notched trowel. Back-butter large-format tiles to improve bond.
- Set tiles with a slight perpendicular motion to collapse ridges and achieve the coverage required by ANSI/TCNA for the area of use.
- Use a leveling system as needed to help manage lippage with large-format tile.
- Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or opening to light traffic.
Step 3: Cutting
- Cut with a wet saw using a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
- Mark cuts carefully and support the tile fully to reduce chipping.
- Ease sharp cut edges where they will be exposed.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select a grout compatible with porcelain and the chosen joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure instructions.
- Pack joints fully with a rubber float, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
- Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and all changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
- Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured as directed.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain; avoid harsh acids or abrasive pads.
- Remove construction residue and grout haze promptly following grout manufacturer instructions.
- Use entry mats and protective pads on furniture to minimize grit and abrasion.
