Installation Guide – Kursaal Neutral 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Confirm substrate suitability, flatness, movement accommodation, and required waterproofing/drainage before installation.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within industry tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Dry-lay to confirm pattern, alignment, and cuts; center the layout to avoid sliver cuts at perimeters.
  • Blend material from multiple boxes to evenly distribute any shade or pattern variation.
  • Select spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified edges; include movement joints per TCNA EJ171.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer‑modified thin‑set mortar approved for porcelain and, when applicable, for large-format tiles.
  • Key mortar into the substrate, comb with an appropriate notch, and back‑butter tiles as needed to improve contact.
  • Set with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges; achieve coverage in line with standards and application (typically 80–95%).
  • Use a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage with larger formats.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer guidance before grouting or opening to light traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Use a wet saw with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Support the tile fully, mark cuts carefully, and feed steadily to reduce chipping.
  • Lightly ease exposed cut edges where appropriate.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow manufacturer mixing and cure times.
  • Pack joints completely, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water.
  • Use appropriate sealant at movement joints and changes of plane; do not grout these areas.
  • Protect the installation from traffic until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH‑neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use walk‑off mats and protective pads under furnishings to reduce abrasion from grit.
  • Maintain grout per manufacturer recommendations; seal cementitious grout if advised.
