Installation Guide – Azuma 2.0 TP 12×24 Porcelain Tile Natural Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the Happy Floors installation recommendations, applicable local building codes, and recognized tile industry standards, including relevant ANSI and TCNA guidance. Confirm that the substrate, setting materials, waterproofing, drainage, movement accommodation, and site conditions are appropriate for the intended application.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify that the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and properly prepared for porcelain tile installation.
  • Plan the layout before setting tile, balancing full tiles and perimeter cuts while coordinating the 12×24 format with adjacent surfaces.
  • Dry-lay or review tiles from multiple boxes as needed to distribute natural color and pattern variation consistently.
  • Use spacers and a joint width appropriate for rectified porcelain tile and the selected layout. Provide movement joints where required by the substrate, room conditions, and industry guidelines.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a suitable tile-setting mortar approved for porcelain and the specific installation location.
  • Apply mortar according to the setting-material manufacturer’s instructions, using appropriate coverage practices for the tile size and application.
  • Set each tile with careful alignment and adequate contact between the mortar and tile. Periodically verify coverage and adjust installation methods when site conditions require it.
  • Maintain the planned layout, joint alignment, and surface plane throughout the installation.
  • Allow the setting material to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before grouting or exposing the installation to traffic or moisture.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut porcelain tile with equipment and a diamond blade suitable for porcelain.
  • Measure and mark cuts carefully, supporting the tile during cutting to help reduce chipping.
  • Ease or finish exposed cut edges as appropriate for transitions, corners, and visible terminations.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout compatible with porcelain tile, the selected joint width, and the installation environment.
  • Follow the grout manufacturer’s directions for mixing, placement, cleaning, and curing.
  • Fill joints consistently and remove excess grout without scratching the tile surface.
  • Use a suitable flexible sealant rather than grout at movement joints and changes of plane where required.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Remove installation residue using products recommended for porcelain tile and the setting-material manufacturers.
  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain tile and avoid harsh abrasives or unsuitable acidic products.
  • Address spills and tracked-in dirt promptly, particularly in entrances and high-use areas.
  • Follow the grout manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations, including any guidance for resealing cementitious grout.
