Installation Guide – Atlantic Dark Grey Matte 12×24 Porcelain Tile Rectified

Important Advisory

Always follow the tile manufacturer’s instructions, local building codes, and recognized industry standards (ANSI A108/A118 and TCNA guidelines). Ensure proper substrate preparation, movement accommodation, and waterproofing/drainage where required.

Step 1: Layout & Planning

  • Verify the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and flat within tolerances appropriate for 12×24 tile.
  • Plan the layout by dry-laying tiles to balance cuts and align grout joints; avoid narrow slivers at perimeters.
  • Blend tiles from multiple boxes to distribute shade variation evenly.
  • Select spacers and a joint width suitable for rectified tile; provide movement joints per TCNA EJ171 at all required locations.

Step 2: Tile Installation

  • Use a polymer-modified thinset mortar approved for porcelain and the installation setting (floor or wall).
  • Key mortar into the substrate, then comb with an appropriate notched trowel; back-butter tiles as needed to improve contact.
  • Set tiles with a slight sliding motion to collapse ridges and achieve proper bond; target coverage consistent with ANSI/TCNA for the area of use.
  • Use a leveling system when needed to help minimize lippage, especially with large-format layouts.
  • Allow mortar to cure per manufacturer instructions before grouting or allowing traffic.

Step 3: Cutting

  • Cut with a wet saw equipped with a premium diamond blade rated for porcelain.
  • Mark and support cuts carefully to reduce chipping; ease sharp cut edges where they may be exposed.
  • Drill openings with porcelain-rated diamond hole saws at low speed with adequate cooling.

Step 4: Joint Filling

  • Choose a grout suitable for porcelain and the selected joint width; follow the grout manufacturer’s mixing and cure guidance.
  • Pack joints fully, clean diagonally, and remove haze promptly with clean water and soft sponges.
  • Use sealant (not grout) at movement joints and all changes of plane; protect the installation until grout has cured.

Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean routinely with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for porcelain tile; avoid acids and harsh abrasives.
  • Use entry mats and protective pads to minimize grit and scratching.
  • Follow grout manufacturer recommendations for maintenance; seal cementitious grout if specified.
