Installation Guide – Nextone Grey 24×48 3/4-Inch Porcelain Paver – Natural
Important Advisory
This guide provides general installation information for the Nextone Grey 24×48 3/4-inch Porcelain Paver. Confirm that the selected installation method, supporting structure, substrate, intended use, and project conditions are approved for this product before installation. Follow current Happy Floors instructions, applicable local building codes, drainage requirements where relevant, and recognized TCNA/ANSI industry standards. Use a qualified installation professional for project-specific planning.
Step 1: Layout & Planning
- Inspect all pavers before installation. Verify the color, caliber, thickness, finish, edges, and quantity, and review material from multiple boxes before setting.
- Dry-lay representative pavers to establish the layout, balance cuts, and evaluate the natural grey appearance across the installation.
- Plan joint widths, perimeter clearances, movement accommodation, and transitions according to the selected installation system and manufacturer requirements.
- Establish reference lines with appropriate layout tools. For exterior installations, confirm drainage direction and required slope away from buildings and other structures before setting material.
Step 2: Paver Installation
- Prepare a stable, properly engineered substrate or base suitable for the selected porcelain paver installation system. Confirm support, drainage, load requirements, compaction where applicable, and surface tolerances before installation.
- Use only an installation method approved for this product, the intended application, and the site conditions. Do not assume that sand-set, mortar-set, pedestal, or other systems are interchangeable or approved without manufacturer and system-specific confirmation.
- Provide uniform support beneath each paver and follow the setting-system manufacturer’s requirements for bedding materials, edge restraints, mortar or jointing materials, and drainage.
- Maintain consistent joints appropriate for rectified porcelain pavers and the selected installation method. Do not install pavers tightly edge to edge.
- Position the 24×48 pavers carefully using suitable handling equipment and tools. Check alignment, elevation, support, drainage, and joint consistency throughout the installation, and provide movement accommodation and perimeter restraint as required by the design.
Step 3: Cutting
- Use professional cutting equipment and a diamond blade rated for porcelain pavers and capable of accommodating the 24×48 format.
- Support the full paver during handling and cutting to help reduce movement, cracking, and edge chipping.
- Measure and mark cuts carefully, accounting for joint widths, perimeter clearances, transitions, and planned movement spaces.
- Use appropriate eye, hearing, hand, and respiratory protection, and control silica-containing dust according to applicable safety requirements. Inspect cut edges and do not install cracked or damaged pieces.
Step 4: Joint Filling
- Select jointing material compatible with porcelain pavers, the selected installation system, joint dimensions, and the project environment.
- For mortar-set installations, allow the setting materials to cure as directed by the system manufacturer before applying compatible grout.
- Provide movement joints where required by the installation design and use compatible flexible sealants at designated movement locations. Do not fill movement joints with rigid grout.
- Remove excess jointing material and installation residue promptly using cleaning methods approved for the porcelain surface.
Step 5: Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean the completed installation with water, a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for porcelain, and non-abrasive tools.
- Remove construction residue and grout haze according to the recommendations of the setting-material and cleaning-product manufacturers.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive tools, and products not approved for porcelain or the installed joint materials.
- Porcelain generally does not require sealing. Periodically inspect joints, perimeter conditions, drainage paths, and the supporting installation system, particularly in exterior applications.
